99 years ago today,Maarch 22, 1907, from the diary of GN.Rye


At the day of this recording in my Father’s diary, Gullik Nelson Rye, had been in the USA for 2 years. He was 18 years old. God willing, I will share excerpts from his diary through December 31, l907.

Friday,March 22, 1907-Warm weather, had to quit school for work, my goodness.
Saturday, March 23, 1907-wary warm weather, I went over to Opheims, hired to halvor Sundem
Sunday, March 24, 1907 -Warm weather, went to church.After I went to Rogness stayed over night.
Monday, March 25, 1907.-Very fine weather, Henry Rogness and I went to Hills am Henry took me over to Halvor Sundem.
Tuesday, March 26, 1907-Fine weather, started to work for HS ,done shorse work, wish I was thru.
Wed,March 27-Chilly N. wind, some shorse work and in pm started to drag.
Thurs,March 28-Very cold wind, sowed oats and was kept busy with dragging.rain in eve.
Friday, March 29-Chilly N wind,pm better, kept dragging, quite stiff from walking.
Saturday, March 30-Very cold and snowy, strong N.wind, I dragged pm , felt very bad.
Sunday,March 31 PR came toHS. I went along to Opheims felt like I was 30
April l,- Very strong S wind , I was sitting around inside all day-
APRIL FOOL!
Note-dragging meant walking behind a team of four horses pulling the drag that covered up the newly sown oats
Horaay-April 1, our Father had a sense of humor!
